LA28 has marked a major milestone: just 1,000 days until the Opening Ceremony of the 2028 Paralympic Games, the first ever to be held in Los Angeles. To celebrate, LA28 has released an initial preview of the Paralympic competition schedule, covering 23 sports and 560 medal events.
“We’re excited to mark 1,000 days from the LA28 Paralympic Games as we set the stage for athletes, fans, and the global community to celebrate sport, resilience, and human potential,” said Reynold Hoover, CEO of LA28. “The schedule reflects our athlete-first approach, creating unforgettable competition moments across Los Angeles.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass added: “In just 1,000 days, we will make history by hosting the first-ever Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, featuring the most women athletes ever on this world stage. I can’t wait to celebrate the elite athleticism and determination of these incredible athletes.”
The LA28 competition schedule was developed in collaboration with each sport’s International Federation, Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), and the International Paralympic Committee, ensuring athletes’ needs are prioritised while also maximising opportunities for fans and audiences worldwide.
Key Highlights of the 2028 Paralympic Competition Schedule:

First Medals of LA28: Day 1 will see the first Paralympic champions in Para Athletics, Wheelchair Fencing, Shooting Para Sport, Para Equestrian, and Para Cycling Track.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies: The Games will officially open on Tuesday, August 15, 2028, and close on Sunday, August 27, 2028, in iconic Los Angeles venues.

Para Climbing Debut: Making its Paralympic debut on Day 9, Para Climbing will compete across four days, building on LA28’s success in introducing new sports.

Action Before the Opening Ceremony: Wheelchair Rugby (Day -2) and Boccia (Day -1) will kick off before the Opening Ceremony, providing more coverage and excitement for fans.

Extended Formats: Wheelchair Rugby and Sitting Volleyball will feature additional play-in rounds, giving teams extra chances to reach the semifinals.

Finals Filled Finale: The final weekend (Days 10–12) will include finals in 17 sports, including Blind Football, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Climbing, Para Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, and Wheelchair Basketball, for an unforgettable conclusion to Los Angeles’ first Paralympic Games.
