Athlone Internationa Arena to Host Inaugural Para Athletics Festival in January

The Inaugural Para Athletics Festival alongside the Indoor Diversity Games known as Future Stars is set to take place at the Athlone International Indoor Arena on the 10th and 11th of January 2024.

The event is for primary school (3rd class upwards) and secondary school students. Any athletes who would like to take part should express interest before December 5th.

 

Primary – Wednesday 10th January

Secondary – Thursday 11th January

 

The festival is open to Primary and Secondary students with the following:

  • Mild impairment
  • Eligible impairment (see below)
  • Can run/throw safely and without assistance (no additional support on the field of play)

 

Eligible Impairments:

  • VI – mild vision impairment (no guides permitted)
  • CP – cerebral palsy (or other neurological condition with similar movements)
  • LA – single or double below the knee leg loss or deficiency
  • AA – single or double arm loss or deficiency
  • SS – short stature (shot put only)
  • II – intellectual impairment (IQ 75 or less and limited social adaption in day-to-day living)

 

Rules:

  • Events will be run a mixed impairment events (depending on entries) but medals will be awarded in each impairment group
