There was great excitement in quick succession at the Enka Athletics Track on Day 2 of the European Para Youth Games with Ireland’s first two medals secured by Damien Moyles and Daire Macken.
Damien Moyles led the charge in the T13 100m storming home in second place in a time of 11.86 seconds, a personal best.
Speaking after the race Moyles said “It was an amazing race, I got out fast. We’ve been training in the heat all week so we’re used to it at this stage. I’m happy out.”
Only minutes later Daire Macken and Aryell Sheedy lined up on in the T37 100m. In a very close contest Macken crossed the finish line in a time of 13.07 seconds just before his teammate Sheedy (13.19) to win silver.
Both athletes (Sheedy and Macken) are back on the track tomorrow in the 400m and 800m (Macken).
