A team of eight Irish swimmers flew out to Glasgow this morning to compete in their first major International meet this year. The event is one of the largest open competitions for Para Swimming and attracts many international teams.
2014 European Double Bronze medallist James Scully is joined by London Paralympic medallist Darragh McDonald, 2013 World Bronze medallists Ellen Keane and Laurence McGivern and fellow London Paralympian Jonathan McGrath.
These five senior athletes are joined by emerging talents Ailbhe Kelly, Nicole Turner and Patrick Flanagan.
The four day meet is a key qualification meet for this year’s IPC World Championships, which will also take place in Tollcross from 13th – 19th July, so it gives the swimmers a chance to compete there before the main event.
Of the eight Irish swimmers competing this weekend Darragh McDonald, Jonathan McGrath and Patrick Flanagan are hoping to secure qualifying times for the World Championships this weekend to make them eligible for selection.
There will be a live feed on British Swimming’s You Tube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/BritishSwimming/videos and you can also follow the news on @britishswimming and #BPSIM15
