The Irish Sports Council yesterday announced details of the 2015 International Carding Scheme. A total of €1.57million was announced in direct athlete funding.
Twenty Paralympic athletes feature on the funding list in addition to the pilot riders on the tandem bikes. Eleven of those athletes are funded at the highest ‘podium’ level.
The direct financial assistance is complemented by the access the athletes have to sports science, medicine and lifestyle services through the Irish Institute of Sport.
Welcoming the investment on behalf of the Paralympic athletes supported, Paralympics Ireland CEO Liam Harbison said; “We welcome the continued support of the ISC and it’s particularly good to see the ongoing top class medal performance of Paralympic athletes reflected in the fact that over half of the podium awards are for Paralympic athletes. This support is vital as the athletes seek to secure qualification for Rio 2016 this year”.
