Irish Paralympic athlete Michael McKillop was recognized once more for his fantastic achievements at the 2015 Belfast Telegraph Sport Awards which were held on Monday evening.
McKillop was presented with the award for Sports Person with a Disability and while this is certainly not the first time he has been the recipient of a Belfast Telegraph sport award, this year’s honour comes on the back of his double gold win at the IPC World Championships in Doha last year, which saw him top the podium in both the 800m and 1500m races.McKillop is a triple Paralympic gold medallist having won gold in the 800m in Beijing in 2008 and gold in both the 800m and 1500m at London 2012. He will be hoping to defend these titles later this year, and also holds world records for both distances.
He was recently named by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as ‘One to Watch’ for Rio 2016 along with fellow Irish athletes Jason Smyth and Noelle Lenihan, who was named as one of the ‘Rising Stars’.Cover image: Michael McKillop/Twitter
