Another fantastic morning of swimming by the Irish squad today on Day 5 of the IPC European Open Swim Championships has ensured that three of the team are through to this evening’s finals.

First up in the pool this morning was 13-year-old Nicole Turner, who has had a hugely successful competition to date, having already secured two silver European medals this week. She certainly didn’t disappoint this morning either, booking her slot in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S6 final with a swim of 37.03 in the heat.

Clare man Jonathan McGrath also has a final to look forward to later today, as he swam strongly in the Men’s 100m Backstroke S8 heat to finish in a time of 1.19.04, while a superb swim from Dubliner Ailbhe Kelly sees her ranked third going into the final of the Women’s 100m Backstroke S8 final later, after she touched home in a time of 1.27.49.

Elsewhere, 14-year-old Barry McClements secured a fantastic new Personal Best time in the Men’s 100m Freestyle S9 heat in a time of 1.03.70, while James Scully did not swim in the Men’s 50m Backstroke S5 due to medical reasons.

The schedule for this evening’s finals is as follows (please note, these times are subject to change):
6.26pm – Nicole Turner: Women’s 50m Freestyle S6
7.42pm – Jonathan McGrath: Men’s 100m Backstroke S8
7.46pm – Ailbhe Kelly: Women’s 100m Backstroke S8
