Turner through to this evening’s final on the last day of the IPC European Open Swim Championships

Nicole Turner was the third fastest in her heat this morning to book her slot in the final of the Women’s 50m Butterfly S6 final on day seven of the IPC European Open Swim Championships.

The talented 13-year-old, who has had a fantastic week to date, swimming a number of Personal Best (PB) times and winning two silver medals, continued her impressive form in the heats today, swimming yet another fantastic PB in a time of 38.94.

Elsewhere, 14-year-old Barry McClements also secured a brilliant PB time in the Men’s 400m Freestyle S9 heat just after 9am this morning when he swam home in a time of 4.43.30, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.*

“I’m really tired, I set a one-second PB, I was kind of hoping for more but I did my best,” he said.

“It’s been a hard week, but I think I did well, I did six PBs out of seven races. It feels great to be here, competing with people from all over is brilliant. I can’t wait for the next meet!” (Full interview here)

Jonathan McGrath was also swimming for his country this morning, and tipped home in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S8 heat in a time of 32.32. Meanwhile, Dubliner Ailbhe Kelly took to the pool in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S8 heat and finished in a time of 37.94.

Nicole’s final will take place this evening at 5.36pm (time subject to change).
