Ireland’s Orla Barry has been upgraded to a silver medal from the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha last year the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed this morning.

Orla, who originally took bronze in the F57 Discus final last October, will now have a World Championship silver medal to add to her collection following the news that Bulgarian field athlete, Stela Eneva, has been suspended by the IPC for four years for an Anti-Doping Rule violation.

Her silver medal has now been awarded to the Cork athlete, whilst the bronze medal will go to Algeria’s Safia Djelal.

Barry most recently secured a gold medal at the recent 2016 Para-Athletics European Championships held in Grosseto, Italy at the start of this month, where she also secured a new Personal Best distance of 31.18m.

The IPC is a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC), and remains committed to a doping free sporting environment at all levels. The IPC, together with the International Federations and the National Paralympic Committees, established the IPC Anti-Doping Code to prevent doping in sport for Para athletes, in the spirit of fair play. The IPC Anti-Doping Code is in conformity with the general principles of the WADC.
