Significant Progress for Boccia

exc-5a0d8600e4966bbd236bae05

The past few weeks have been extremely positive for Boccia Ireland, who have achieved two major milestones. At the end of October, two classifiers attended a BISFed Classification Course in Portugal. Both Ana Maia (medical) & Lisa Callaghan (technical) passed with flying colours and became our first officially certified National Classifiers. Congratulations to them both!

Last Saturday we then saw Ana and Lisa put their knowledge & expertise into action at our first ever Boccia National Classification Day; with an incredible eleven players being classified on the day. This was held in conjunction with a training and competition day in Ballyfermot Leisure Centre, between players from PK Boccia Club and players from DSNI. It was an excellent day for all involved with fantastic energy all round. Many thanks goes to PK Boccia Club for facilitating the Classification and for being excellent hosts!

This classification was aptly timed as it now allows for larger number of entries into this years National Championships, which are being held in DCU on the 16th December. Last year we saw three classes competing for National Champion titles, this year we hope to have all four Paralympic classifications competing; BC1 – BC4. Details on how players register will be available from Monday 20th. Get ready to compete for the 2017 titles!
