Paralympics Ireland welcomes the increased funding announced for Irish sport by Minister Shane Ross and Minister Brendan Griffin yesterday. Sport plays a vital role in Irish society and this increase in funding will be very beneficial.

Speaking about the increased government funding Paralympics Ireland CEO, Miriam Malone, said ‘The increase of 13% in investment in Irish sport is an extremely welcome announcement. It is particularly pleasing to see an additional €1.5million specifically allocated to High performance sport in advance of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. Irish Paralympians have consistently delivered medals at Paralympic Games and, thanks to this announcement, they will be well equipped to maintain this level of success.’

President of Paralympics Ireland, John Fulham, said ‘I am delighted to see that disability sport has been specifically targeted in the announcements made this week. Deploying Sport Inclusion Development Officers throughout each of the 26 Local Sports Partnerships will provide opportunities to so many to get involved in sport but will also have an impact in the identification of potential Paralympians.’
