Staunton and O’Flynn Become Ambassadors

Cora Staunton and Paul O’Flynn were today confirmed as the newest ambassadors for the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships which are set to take place this August at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

 

Staunton and O’Flynn are the final two ambassadors for #Dublin2018 and they now join previously announced ambassadors; Jessie Barr, Niall Quinn, Gordon D’Arcy, Amber Barrett, Claire Bergin and Rory O’Connor.

 

All 8 ambassadors have agreed to give up their time to become involved in this great event and are now in training for the 50m Ambassador Challenge race that will take place on Friday 17th of August in what is sure to be a spectacular day of in-pool competition.

 

The World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships will mark the first time that Ireland has ever hosted a major international para sporting event. Over 500 athletes have been confirmed for the championships with 37 countries represented. 167 events will take place during the weeklong event with a combined 45 hours of swimming and 476 individual races.

 

Tickets for the event are on sale now via www.paralympics.ie/Dublin2018 with morning session tickets costing just €5 for adults and €3 for Under 16s and evening session tickets costing just €10 for adults and €3 for Under 16’s with discounted group and family tickets also available. Special Championship tickets are also available that will give access to every session throughout the 7 days of competition at a cost of €70 for adults and €20 for Under 16’s.

 

Speaking about the announcement of Cora Staunton and Paul O’Flynn as ambassadors for #Dublin2018, Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Miriam Malone said ‘I am delighted to announce Cora and Paul as the newest ambassadors for #Dublin2018. Cora is legendary figure in Irish sport as Ladies Gaelic Football player with Mayo and recently in the professional game in Australia. Paul O’Flynn is well known from our TV screens and will represent our media partners, RTE, in the event. We are really looking forward to seeing how all 8 ambassadors get on in the pool on August 17th.’
