It was a strong showing from Irish Para Triathletes; Andrew Nicholson and Cassie Cava, who competed at the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in the Gold Coast over the weekend.
Andrew Nicholson came into the competition ranked in 32 place after competing in 3 events but it was clear as he emerged from the swim in 5th position that he meant business. Nicholson went on to finish in 9th place in the PTS4 competition against a World Class field and will be very pleased with his performance. His time of 1:08:21 was just 3 minutes short of a podium position finish.
Cassie Cava also competed for Ireland in the PTS3 competition and she too was in good form as she finished in third place after posting a very strong time of 1:28:29. Cava will be particularly pleased with her excellent swim as she emerged from the water in first position but was caught and passed on the run by eventual winner Plotnikova and Elise Marc.
Both Cassie and Andrew will be happy with their performances and will hope that there is more to follow in 2019.
