Jason Smyth has progressed through to the Final of the T13 100 metres at the World Para Athletics Championships with relative ease as he won his heat with a time of 10:84.

Jason, who holds the world record for this event and has never been beaten in Para Athletics event, was comfortable throughout and could even afford to ease up short of the line. He will be joined in the final by Austin Ingram from Canada and Doniyorjon Akhmedov from Uzbekhistan who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. However, Smyth will be wary of the threat that will be posed by the Australian sprinter, Chris Perris, who finished just 3 hundredths of a second off Smyth’s time when winning his own heat.

‘I feel like the heat’s really just about getting going and it’s really down to business later’

Jason is expected back on track for the T13 100 metres final this evening at 3:15pm but there will be other Irish interest as Jordan Lee makes his debut at the World Para Athletics Championships. The young Kerry man will get his High Jump final underway at 2pm Irish time in a competition for which he is ranked 2nd in the World.
