The Irish team that will compete at the World Para Swimming Allianz Championships in London this September was named today at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre. The 8 person team will be the first Irish paralympic team to compete in the new Under Armour team kit which will be supplied by Under Armour’s Teamwear Partner; Dreamsport.

Amy Marren will make her debut appearance for Ireland as she has been named in the eight person team that will compete at the World Championships from September 9th to 15th at the London Aquatics Centre. Amy has previously represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 where she won a Bronze Medal. Amy will be joined on Team Ireland by European Gold and Bronze medallist, Ellen Keane and European Silver Medallist, Nicole Turner. Patrick Flanagan, who was agonisingly close to winning a European medal in Dublin last year, returns to the team along with Jonathan McGrath, Ailbhe Kelly, Barry McClements and Sean O’Riordan.

The World Para Swimming Allianz Championships will represent the first opportunity that team Ireland will have to secure slots at the Paralympic Games that are being held in Tokyo next year. The Gold and Silver medal winners in each event will automatically secure slots for their nation at the 2020 Paralympic Games.

Under Armour will also be the Official Kit for Paralympics Ireland in a long term deal with Dreamsport that will include the team kit that will be worn by Team Ireland at the Paralympic Games in both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

Speaking about the announcement of the Irish Para Swimming Team for the World Para Swimming Allianz Championships in London, Paralympics Ireland CEO, Miriam Malone said ‘we are very pleased to name a very strong team to compete in London next year. It is great to see seven of the team that competed so well at the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships in Dublin last year return to the team for this major competition. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Amy Marren who has joined the squad and I look forward to seeing her compete at the London Aquatics Centre.’

Announcing the deal with Under Armour, Miriam Malone said ‘Under Armour is a premium brand that is amongst the best regarded sportswear suppliers in the world. Our Irish athletes will strive for the highest performance levels safe in the knowledge that they are wearing kit that was designed for that very purpose. I look forward to working closely with Under Armour and their team wear partner, Dreamsport.’

Bruce Wood, Head of Dreamsport brands in Ireland ‘We are delighted with the partnership up to and including Paris 2024. With the shared vision of high performance we look forward to working with Paralympics Ireland and the Athletes to deliver best in class apparel’’
