Paralympics Ireland are working closely with Sport Ireland, The Sport Ireland Institute and the Olympic Federation of Ireland to ensure that best practices are observed to mitigate the effect of the virus on athletes and their Paralympic Games preparations.
We are in constant contact with the International Paralympic Committee, World Para Swimming, World Para Athletics and other organising bodies regarding the status of future competitions and classification opportunities.
Paralympics Ireland introduced travel restrictions and safety guidelines for para-athletes on March 3rd and following the new measures announced by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, this afternoon (March 12th) Paralympics Ireland has taken the following steps to ensure the safety of Irish Para Athletes.
· All athletes have been advised against any international travel until March 29th at the earliest.
· Athletes have been advised not to train with their clubs or in large groups.
· Where possible athletes are asked to train on their own or to use adapted training techniques were possible.
· Meetings are to take place using digital communications where possible.
· The offices of Paralympics Ireland at the Irish Sports Headquarters in the Sport Ireland Campus will be closed from March 13th to March 29th inclusive.
