Shauna made her Paralympic debut in Paris in August, following her first appearance for Ireland at the Para Athletics World Championships the previous summer.
The rising para athletics star set three personal bests in a single weekend at the WPA Grand Prix in Switzerland in June, clocking 11:07.20 in the 5k, 16.38 in the 100m, and 3:17.22 in the 1500m. She continued her impressive form by breaking her 1500m personal best again at the Daniela Jutziere Memorial.
Bocquet took to the track in the Women’s 800m Wheelchair event at the Wanda Diamond League in London this July, powering through to set a new personal best of 1:48.42 and securing a strong 4th place finish.
She is a student at Atlantic Technological University studying Sport and Exercise Science. She will be starting her third year in September.
Bocquet played a key role in the development of the new athletics track in Craughwell. In October 2020, during the Covid pandemic, she took on her first marathon—26 miles (42km)—on a 5km road loop, completing it in an impressive two hours and 22 minutes as part of “The 42 Challenge.” Her efforts helped raise €50,000, which funded the initial groundwork for the track. A combination of additional fundraising and government support covered the remaining €355,000, and within three years, the track was completed in a community known as ‘the village that loves athletics.’
