Tom Williamson was crowned Para Triathlete of the Year at the 2025 Triathlon Ireland Awards, held on Saturday, 8th November at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road in Dublin. Williamson received his award from Paralympics Ireland President Lisa Clancy, in recognition of an outstanding season representing Ireland on the international stage.
In October, Williamson delivered a superb performance at the 2025 World Triathlon Para Championships in Australia. Heading to the event with a podium in his sights, he set out his stall early, emerging from the water in second place and right in the mix from the outset. On the bike course, a chase pack consisting of Williamson, Portugal’s Marques, Germany’s Schulz, and Hungary’s Mocsari spent much of the 20km leg trading places. In the closing stages, Williamson and Germany’s Martin Schulz broke away from the rest of the group to enter T2 in third and fourth positions respectively. Up ahead, Chris Hammer (USA) and Jack Howell (AUS) were locked in a fierce battle for gold, but the chasers were closing in fast. Williamson battled hard on the final 5km run to finish sixth in the world, capping off a breakthrough international season.

The Triathlon Ireland Awards brought together athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters from across the country to celebrate another remarkable year for Irish triathlon. Awards were presented across multiple categories, recognising excellence in age-group racing, national championships, high performance, and Para triathlon. The evening also celebrated the volunteers, clubs, and organisers whose dedication continues to drive the growth of triathlon in Ireland.
