Ireland’s Heather Jameson has claimed silver in the Women’s C2 1km Time Trial at the 2026 UCI Para Cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, securing her second World Championship medal in less than two months.

Competing at her first Track World Championships on Thursday, 29 October, Jameson delivered an impressive performance to finish second behind Switzerland’s Flurina Rigling, adding to the silver medal she won at the UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, in September.

Rigling claimed the world title in a time of 1:17.220, finishing more than three seconds ahead of Jameson, while Brazil’s Sabrina Custódia da Silva took bronze. The Swiss cyclist had earlier set a new world record of 1:16.750 in qualifying.

The result continues an outstanding season for Jameson, who has now claimed World Championship silver medals on both the road and the track in 2026.

In September, Jameson secured her first World Championship medal in the Women’s C2 road race in Huntsville, finishing just three seconds behind Rigling, who also claimed gold on that occasion.

Her silver medal in Huntsville followed a fifth place finish in the individual time trial earlier in the Championships.

Jameson had already enjoyed success at European level this season, claiming two bronze medals at the European Para Cycling Road Championships in June, finishing third in both the time trial and road race.

Her latest silver medal in Apeldoorn represents another significant milestone in her international career.

Five Irish Bikes in Action on Friday

Following Jameson’s podium finish on the opening day, five Irish bikes will be in action on Friday, 30 October, as the Championships continue in Apeldoorn.

Richael Timothy will compete in the Women’s C3 1km Time Trial, while two Irish tandems will contest the Men’s B 1km Time Trial, with Ciarán O’Toole partnering Mitchell McLaughlin and Stephen de Vries competing alongside Harvey Barnes.

Paralympic champion Katie-George Dunlevy will also take to the track alongside pilot Alice Sharpe in the Women’s B Individual Pursuit.

Jameson returns to competition in the Women’s C1-C2 Scratch Race, looking to build on her silver medal performance from Thursday.

The 2026 UCI Para Cycling Track World Championships continue until Sunday, 1 November, with 235 athletes competing for 48 world titles across four days of competition.
