Applications are now open for CARA’s National Inclusion Awards which will take place on December 3rd.
The awards recognize organisations that have contributed to giving people with disabilities ease of access to sport and physical activity and are run by CARA, an organisation that promotes awareness of and accessibility to sport and physical activity amongst people with disabilities.
Speaking about the event, Gearoid O’Doherty, Project Coordinator stated: “We feel that it’s important for everyone to have fair and equal access to sport. We want to recognize those who have gone to the effort of making the activities they offer accessible to all, as well as give advice to those who wish to do so in the future.”
There are eight different awards on offer, which cover a number of different types of organisations, including leisure centres, adventure centres, sports governing bodies and sports clubs to name but a few, along with various levels of the education system from primary school level to third level.
Entries will be judged by a four-person panel to include Nicky Hamill (Irish Wheelchair Association Sport), Ciaran Murphy (Irish Sailing Association), Brenda O’Donnell (CARA) and Declan O’Leary (Coaching Ireland).
This year’s awards ceremony follows on from a hugely successful event last year, which CARA are hoping to build upon.
“Last year we received 91 applications,” O’Doherty added. “Our aim is to get more than that this year.”
