Paralympian Barry McClements has been named on the Team NI swimming squad for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
McClements, who represented Ireland at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, returns to the Commonwealth Games stage having made history at Birmingham 2022, where he won bronze in the S9 100m backstroke. That result marked Team NI’s first ever Commonwealth Games medal in swimming.
In Glasgow, McClements is set to compete in the S9 100m backstroke and S10 100m butterfly as part of a strong swimming squad selected for Team NI.
The 2026 squad includes a number of major international medallists and experienced Games athletes, including Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen, Paralympic gold medallist Bethany Firth, Danielle Hill, Conor Ferguson, Jack McMillan, Ellie McCartney, Grace Davison and Charlotte Cullen.
The Team NI swimming squad also includes relay selections across men’s and women’s events, with athletes from across Swim Ireland and Swim Ulster programmes named for the Games.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in July 2026.
