The Irish Para Athletics team will begin competition tomorrow at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India. The Championships, which run from 27 September to 5 October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, will feature more than 1,600 athletes from over 120 nations and mark the first time the event has been hosted in India.

Ireland will be represented by a talented squad that includes Paralympians Orla Comerford and Greta Streimikyte, along with rising talent Lana Sutton. The team, guided by Head Coach James Nolan, will be aiming to deliver strong performances against the world’s best after an intense warm weather camp in Dubai.

Orla Comerford will lead the Irish charge in New Delhi, fresh from securing bronze in the T13 100m at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Building on a year of impressive form, Comerford is targeting more medal success on the world stage. Her campaign begins with the 100m T13 final on Sunday, 28 September. She will then turn her attention to the T13 200m.

Greta Streimikyte, a three-time Paralympian and one of Ireland’s most experienced para athletes, joins her long-time teammate in the squad. Streimikyte finished fourth in the T13 1500m final at Paris 2024 and has remained a consistent contender since her international breakthrough at Rio 2016. She will once again take on the world’s best middle-distance runners, going straight into the T13 1500m final on Sunday, 28 September, which will be run as a straight final.

Rising star Lana Sutton completes the team, bringing energy and momentum to the Championships. A T38 sprinter, Sutton enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, claiming silver in the 100m and bronze in the long jump at the Paris Handisport Open. New Delhi marks her debut on the World Championship stage, offering the chance to test herself against the strongest field of her career so far. She lines up in the T38 100m heats on Sunday, 28 September, with the final the next day, Monday, 29 September. Sutton will then conclude her programme with the T38 200m final on Thursday, 2 October.

The 2025 Para Athletics World Championships will be streamed live on the Paralympics YouTube channel.
