Heidelberg was the host city for the 1972 Paralympic Games. Team Ireland benefitted from the shorter trip to Germany and were able to make this count on the podium where 9 Irish athletes claimed medals.
Rosaleen Gallagher added a further two medals to her impressive haul and she was joined by Jimmy Gibson and Kathleen Fagan as double medal winners in Heidelberg. There was also a silver medal for Ireland in the Women’s teams table tennis and Jimmy Gibson also made it a second gold medal in a row as he won the top prize in the snooker.
