The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) has announced the return of its Fitness Inclusion Games, with the second edition set to take place on May 7th at the National Indoor Arena on the Sport Ireland Campus.
The event will bring together 150 participants with physical disabilities from across Ireland for a dedicated day of inclusive fitness, competition and community. Athletes will take part in a series of adapted team challenges designed to test strength, endurance and skill in a supportive and high-energy environment.
Now in its second year, the Fitness Inclusion Games continue to build momentum for more inclusive fitness opportunities nationwide. The initiative responds to the ongoing barriers many people with physical disabilities face when accessing gyms, programmes and competitive sport.
Delivered through IWA’s Fitness Inclusion Project, the Games form part of a wider commitment to creating more accessible pathways into physical activity. The project aims to ensure more people with disabilities can experience the physical, mental and social benefits of being active in their communities.
Inspired by formats such as CrossFit and Hyrox, the competition features adapted workouts that cater to a wide range of abilities, placing emphasis on participation, teamwork and progression.
Since beginning as a pilot programme in Drogheda in 2023, the Fitness Inclusion Project has expanded significantly, with programmes now running in locations including Navan, Galway and across Dublin.
The return of the Fitness Inclusion Games marks another step forward in creating inclusive, engaging and accessible opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved in fitness and sport across Ireland.
