Jason Smyth and his professional partner Karen Byrne stunned audiences and the judges with their contemporary ballroom dance on Sunday’s episode of Dancing With the Stars.
The performance was specially curated to show the audiences at home how Jason’s sees the world, highlighting Stargardts disease and educating Ireland in the process. The dance gave the pair a standing ovation from the audience and their best scored from the judges so far, 24 points.
Jason said: “For me, that was such an important piece to try bring people into my world. Even as I stand here on camera, I can’t even see the camera to look at people. People don’t know that and to have the opportunity to come on here and show that is amazing, and go from no dancing to learning to dance on national TV.”

Sunday’s show was the first round of eliminations and their scores paired with the public vote saw Jason and Karen safely head through to week 5 of the competition.
Dancing With the Stars is on RTE One Sundays at 6:30pm.
