Ireland was well represented on the podium at the World Triathlon Para Series in Taranto over the weekend, with Tom Williamson winning his first-ever series medal while Judith MacCombe and guide Eimear Nicholls also bringing home silverware.

Williamson was competing in the PTS5 category and maintained his strong start to the season with an impressive performance in the swim before setting the fastest split of the field. He eventually took second place, just 25 seconds off race leader Jack Howell of Australia with Portugal’s Felipe Marques in third.

Meanwhile, MacCombe and Nicholls opened their season with an impressive third-place finish in the PTVI category. The pair produced a strong all-around performance, which put them in medal contention and recorded the second-fastest bike leg. The race was won by Spain’s Susana Rodriguez with Francesca Tarantello of Italy in second place.

It was also a season debut for Donnacha McCarthy and Sean Husband with the pair finishing ninth in the PTVI Men’s category after a solid performance.

Next up for the Irish team is the 2025 European Para Triathlon championships in Besancon, France which takes place next Saturday, June 13.
