The Mixed Class Para 100m Race Series returns for 2026, building on its growing reputation as one of the most exciting initiatives in Irish Para athletics. Now entering its third year, the series continues to bring together Ireland’s leading male Para sprinters alongside emerging talent, creating a competitive and consistent platform across the domestic season.

A key development for 2026 sees the prestigious Morton Games confirmed as the Series Final, further elevating the profile of the competition and providing a fitting stage for the crowning of Ireland’s overall fastest male Para sprinter.

How the Series Works

The Mixed Class Para 100m Race Series features a unique format that brings together athletes from multiple Para athletics classifications in direct competition.

Race times are adjusted based on classification, with athletes earning points at each of the four designated meetings. At the conclusion of the series, the athlete with the highest cumulative points total is crowned series champion.

The structure rewards not only speed, but consistency and progression across the season, ensuring meaningful competition from the opening race through to the final in Santry Stadium.

Strong Foundations from 2025

Last year’s series delivered high-quality racing and close competition across the classifications. The 2025 podium reflected both performance and consistency across the season:

1st – Cathal Ryan (T47), West Muskerry AC
2nd – Fionan Ruane (T13), Moy Valley AC
3rd – Alex Lee (T64), Galway City Harriers

All three athletes demonstrated the depth of talent currently driving Irish Para sprinting forward.

Season Opener in Clonmel

The 2026 series gets underway on Saturday 2 May at the Festival of Athletics in Clonmel, with a strong field expected for the opening round.

The start list will feature a mix of Senior athletes alongside those from the Para Athletics Academy and Para Potential programmes, offering a clear snapshot of both current performance levels and the next generation coming through.

Returning series champion Cathal Ryan and 2025 runner-up Fionan Ruane, both members of the Paralympics Ireland Aspire Programme, headline the field and are expected to face strong competition across the classifications.

Supporting Development and Visibility

Beyond the race results, the series continues to play an important role in the development of Para athletics in Ireland. By integrating Para events into established domestic meetings, it provides athletes with regular high-quality competition while also strengthening visibility within the wider athletics community.

The series supports athletes progressing along the performance pathway, from emerging talent through to those targeting national selection, international competition, and future Paralympic Games.
