Ní Riain Sets New European Record at McCullagh International

Róisín Ní Riain set a new European record in the S13 50m Backstroke at the McCullagh International Meet on 21 February at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, Dublin.

The University of Limerick Sports Scholarship student clocked 30.71 seconds, breaking the previous European record of 30.72 which had stood since 2016.

Ní Riain is a Paralympic silver and bronze medallist from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she won silver in the 100m Backstroke S13 and bronze in the 200m Individual Medley SM13.

At the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore, she won five medals: silver in the 100m Backstroke S13, 100m Breaststroke SB13 and 400m Freestyle S13, and bronze in the 100m Butterfly S13 and 200m Individual Medley SM13.

Her European record in Dublin adds to an already extensive list of international medals and records across backstroke, individual medley and freestyle events.
