Ní Riain continued her impressive form at the Para Swimming World Championships touching home in second place in her 400m Freestyle final to claim her fourth medal. Additionally, her time of 4:37.39 was also a personal best that she has been chasing.
Speaking after her win Ní Riain said: “I’m really happy with that swim I’ve been looking for a time like that now for a little while. There’s still so much more to come in that event I’ve only picked it back up again this year so to be able to come out and get my first major international medal in this event, I’m really happy with that.”
McClements was the second Irish Para swimmer in final action on day 6. He delivered a strong performance in the S9 100m Backstroke Final, finishing sixth overall and setting a new personal best time of 1:04.51.
Speaking after his final McClements said: “I just wanted to go out there and race you know? That’s what I’m good at. I wanted to enjoy it; that’s the main part of this sport for me is enjoyment and I think I sort of forgot that this week”
Dearbhaile Brady contested her third world final, the SB6 100m Breaststroke fresh after winning her first ever World Championship medal last night. She finished 7th in a time of 1:49.24.
The final day of competition will see Ireland’s last two swimmers take to the pool at the World Para Swimming Championships. Róisín Ní Riain will contest Heat 2 of the SM13 200m Individual Medley, while Dearbhaile Brady goes straight into a direct final in the S6 50m Butterfly. Both will be aiming to close out the championships on a high for Team Ireland.
