Orla Comerford stunned a packed stadium today with a phenomenal run in a stacked field that saw her crowned World Champion in the T13 100m.
The Raheny sprinter powered over the line in a time of 11.88 seconds to win her first World Championship medal, gold. Speaking after the race Comerford said: “It feels amazing! I feel like all season this was my goal, it’s not one you want to put out there and be like I want gold I want to be champion but I kind of kept my head down I knew that I had to work hard.”
Comerford has been going from strength to strength since the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, where she delivered a standout performance in the T13100m , securing the bronze medal with a time of 11.94 seconds marking her first Paralympic podium finish.
Earlier today Greta Streimikyte got Team Ireland’s World Para Athletics Championships campaign off to a sensational start, storming to gold in the T12/13 1500m.
The three-time Paralympian stamped her authority on the race early, moving to the front of the pack and maintaining control before powering clear in the closing stages to cross the line in 4:39.62.
Speaking after the race she said: “To be honest I like taking a race, taking it on so I just took the opportunity”She has completed her programme at the World Para Athletics Championships, as this was her sole event.
