Double Paralympic medallist Róisín Ní Riain has been nominated for the RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year Award for the second year in a row. The National Centre Limerick swimmer is part of a strong shortlist of six athletes which includes Olympic sailor Eve McMahon and boxer Kyla Doyle.
At just 16 years old, Róisín was the youngest athlete competing at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games where she made five finals.
Ní Riain had her breakthrough Games in Paris this summer. She took home her first and Team Ireland’s first medal of the Games claiming sliver in her S13 100m backstroke final at the La Défense Arena.
She then won her second medal with a third-place finish in the SM13 200m individual medley final with a stunning last 50 metres to snatch bronze and set a new personal best of 2:27.47 in the process, erasing almost two seconds of her previous PB of 2:29.11.
The winner will be announced at the RTÉ Sports Awards on Sunday, 15th December. The Awards being handed out on the night live on RTÉ One in front of an audience of Irish sports stars include RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year, RTÉ Sport Team of the Year, RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year

At the end of 2023, Róisin was nomintated for an RTÉ Sports Award in both the Sportperson of the Year and Young Sportsperson of the year categories. She also received a nomination for a Her Sports Award in the Young Athlete of the Year category.
