IMG_1252-1

Team Ireland will field a strong squad of seven athletes (including three guides) at the 2025 European Paratriathlon Championships in Besançon. The group includes one PTS5 athlete and three PTVI pairings, each aiming to make their mark on the international stage and build momentum toward the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The European Paratriathlon Championships is a key event on the international para triathlon calendar, providing athletes with the opportunity to earn crucial ranking points and benchmark themselves against Europe’s best.

Paralympians and twin sisters Chloe and Judith MacCombe will go head-to-head in the PTVI category. Chloe makes her debut with guide Aisling Wyer and Judith continues to build on a strong partnership with Eimear Nicholls. The siblings, both Paris 2024 Paralympians, bring a wealth of experience and competitive spirit to the start line in Besançon, promising an exciting intra-squad rivalry as they each aim for top honours.

Tom Williamson (PTS5) represents Down Triathlon Club and has rapidly emerged as a key figure in Irish para-triathlon. His breakthrough came in April 2024 at the World Triathlon Para Cup in Yenisehir, Turkey, where he led out of the swim and delivered a commanding bike leg, finishing fourth against a strong international field. He followed this up with a bronze medal at the 2024 European Championships in Vichy, confirming his ability to compete at the top level. Building on that momentum, Tom secured his first World Triathlon Para Series podium with a silver medal in Taranto in June 2025, thanks to a dominant swim and the fastest bike split of the day.

Donnacha McCarthy and Guide Sean Husband (PTVI) have built a strong and consistent partnership on the international para-triathlon circuit. The duo recorded a career-best seventh-place finish at the 2024 World Para Triathlon Championship Finals in Torremolinos, followed by eighth place at the 2024 World Triathlon Para Series in Abu Dhabi. They opened their 2025 season with a solid ninth-place finish in Taranto, competing in a highly competitive men’s PTVI field. With a foundation of consistent top-ten results, Donnacha and Sean will be aiming to climb even higher in this weekend’s European Championships in Besançon.
