The Irish Para Swimming team will begin competition tomorrow at the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore. The Championships, which run from 21 to 27 September at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, will feature more than 600 athletes from over 60 nations and will be hosted in Asia for the first time.
Ireland will be represented by five swimmers who bring together a strong mix of international medal experience and emerging talent.
Leading the team is Róisín Ní Riain (S13/SB13/SM13), a double Paralympic medallist at Paris 2024, reigning World Champion in the S13 100m Backstroke, and a multiple European champion. Ní Riain will compete in five events in Singapore.
Also returning to the World Championships stage is Barry McClements (S9), a two-time Paralympian and European medallist, who will race in both the 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.
Deaten Registe (SB14) will make his World Championships debut, competing in the 100m Breaststroke following his Paralympic debut last summer.
Dearbhaile Brady (S6/SB6/SM6), who made her Paralympic debut in Paris, will take on four events across freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and medley.
Síomha Nic Brádaigh (S7/SM7), newcomer to the team will race in three events at her first World Championships.
The competition provides Ireland’s athletes with an opportunity to test themselves against the best in the world while also building towards the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The action begins tomorrow with Róisín Ní Riain and Síomha Nic Brádaigh both racing on the opening day in Singapore.
