Three Top Ten Finishes for Irish Athletes at 2024 World Triathlon Para Championships

There was strong showing from Irish athletes at the 2024 World Triathlon Para Championships in Spain this weekend.

Ireland was represented across three events with Paralympian Judith MacCombe coming closest to the podium missing out on 3rd place by an agonising 5 seconds.

Judith MacCombe and Eimear Nicholls (guide) claimed 4th place 5 seconds off a podium finish. They made their mark by posting the fastest bike and run splits, completing the race in 01:07:50. Another impressive performance to round out a significant year for the pair, after securing multiple titles throughout the season and achieving a Top 10 finish at the Paris Paralympic Games.

Tom Williamson delivered and impressive performance with a 5th place finish, following up on his recent bronze win at the European Championships. Williamson led the race exiting the water and maintained a strong position finishing 2nd on the bike as he entered T2. The final run determined his place in the top 5 in the world with an overall time of 01:01:30.

Donnacha McCarthy and Sean Husband (guide)returned to Torremolinos for the first time since 2021 securing their best place yet at the event. The pair finished in 7th place in the PTVI event with an overall time of 01:04:45.
