The 2025 World Rowing Cup series gets underway this weekend in Varese, Italy, running from Friday 13 June to Sunday 15 June. Representing Ireland will be Limerick rower Tiarnán O’Donnell, making his first international appearance since the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Competing in the PR2 Men’s Single Scull, this marks Tiarnan’s debut regatta of the new Paralympic cycle as he begins his journey toward Los Angeles 2028. At the Paris Games, Tiarnán finished 8th in the PR2 Mixed Double Sculls alongside Katie O’Brien. His appearance in Varese also signals a return to solo competition at the top level, bringing with him the experience of a strong 2024 season in which he secured silver medals at both World Cup II and III.
Tiarnán’s competition in the PR2 Men’s Single Scull begins on Friday, 13 June, with his preliminary race scheduled for 15:10 CEST (14:10 IST).

This weekend’s regatta is the first of just two World Rowing Cup events scheduled for 2025, a departure from the usual three-regatta format. The second and final event will take place in Lucerne later this month, on 27 June. Overall series winners will be determined by accumulated points across both events.
Tiarnán will face a mixed international field in Varese. Among his competitors are debutants from Great Britain and Uzbekistan, while the Turkish entrant placed just behind Tiarnán and O’Brien in Paris. Racing begins with a preliminary heat on Friday to determine lane placements for Sunday’s A Final.
