Irish football legend, Niall Quinn and current Irish football striker, Amber Barrett were today named as the two newest Ambassadors for the Para Swimming Allianz European Championships.

The two forwards will now be swapping the football field for the swimming pool as they take on the Para Swimming Allianz European Championship Ambassador Challenge on August 17th. Niall and Amber will join previously unveiled ambassadors; rugby legend Gordon D’Arcy and Olympian Jessie Barr, along with 4 soon to be announced ambassadors to compete in a 50m race in the National Aquatic Centre.

Over 600 volunteers are being sought to help in a variety of roles at the championships and Niall Quinn encouraged their involvement ‘Volunteers are so important to events like this and it can be an extremely rewarding experience. I would urge anyone that has some spare time to get involved between August 13th and 19th by signing up to www.paralympics.ie before the deadline of April

Ireland Women’s Senior International Striker, Amber Barrett, is looking forward to the Ambassador Challenge ‘As soon as I was asked I jumped at the chance of getting involved. I really look up to Para Athletes and I can’t wait to get involved in the championships themselves. The challenge of swimming 50 metres myself is daunting, especially with Niall, Gordon and Jessie lining up alongside me but I am looking forward to it.’

Miriam Malone, Chairperson of the Para Swimming Allianz European Championships Local Organising Committee, welcomed Niall and Amber as the newest Ambassadors for #Dublin2018 ‘I am delighted that Niall and Amber are coming on board as ambassadors for these championships. Their enthusiasm for the event is so encouraging and I am looking forward to seeing how they get on in the pool. Having people of their profile involved in these championships is a further boost to the profile of the event.’
