An eight person team has arrived at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix event in Rieti in Italy. Paul Keoghan, Greta Streimikyte, David Leavy, Niamh McCarthy, Orla Barry, Orla Comerford, Noelle Lenihan and Jordan Lee will represent Ireland at the grand prix that is being held at the Stadio Raul Guidobaldi.
Team Ireland’s first competitor will be Paul Keoghan who goes in the 400m tomorrow, he will be followed on the track by Greta Streimikyte and David Leavy who will both compete in the 1500m. Niamh McCarthy will then bring the first day of competition to a close as she competed in the discus at 6pm.
Day 2 will see the focus turn to our throwers as Orla Barry competes in the discus on Saturday at 3:30pm. An hour later Orla Comerford will race in the 100m and then, at 6:00pm Noelle Lenihan will compete in the discus.
On the final day of competition, our young high jumper, Jordan Lee, will compete at 10:20am on Sunday. All of our athletes will hope to achieve the Minimum Qualifying Standards for the European Championships that will be held in Germany this August.
Elsewhere, Patrick O’Leary has been in great form at the Szeged World Cup. His time of 41:068 in the K1 200 sprint event set a new personal best and saw him win his semi final. His final takes place tomorrow.
