Grosseto in Italy will play host to Team Ireland and a host of international Para Athletics stars as the Italian event of the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Circuit is hosted in the venue for the third consecutive year.
A strong Irish team has made the journey to Italy where they have been preparing for the event since their arrival on Tuesday. The team consists of Jason Smyth, Jordan Lee, Niamh McCarthy, David Leavy, Orla Barry, Noelle Lenihan and Mary Fitzgerald.
Irish sprinting sensation, Jason Smyth, is one of the main attractions to the event and has been highlighted heavily in the advertising for the Grand Prix so plenty of interest is expected when he takes to the track on Saturday at 4pm. European champion, Niamh McCarthy will be the first Irish athlete in action when she enters the throwing circle at 6:45pm tomorrow. David Leavy is the first of our runners to see action when he competes at 7:10pm on the same day. Jason Smyth, Orla Barry, Noelle Lenihan and Mary Fitzgerald will all feature on Day 2 of the competition and Jordan Lee will be the last Irish athlete in action when he competes in the High Jump on Sunday morning at 9:45am.
