Nicole Turner has qualified for the final of the SM6 200m Individual Medley today at the World Para Swimming Allianz Championships. Nicole led after the freestyle stroke but saw that lead overturned by Merechenko from the Ukraine who went on to lead them home. However, Turner was able to maintain her momentum and comfortably qualify for this evening’s final with a fourth place finish in 3:15:22.
Barry McClements narrowly missed out on both his personal best and a place in the final despite producing one of his best ever performances in the S9 100m Butterfly heats. Barry’s fifth place finish in the heat saw him miss out by less than 4 hundredths of a second on a place in the final. Barry finished in ninth place overall and is on standby for this evening’s final and will compete should any of the first 8 withdraw.
Injury saw Amy Marren miss out on her event on Monday and, despite competing in a final yesterday evening, the injury has again struck and she was unable to take her place on the block for the 100m S9 Butterfly. It is still hoped that the shoulder injury will clear up enough to allow Amy to compete at least once more before the end of the Championships on Sunday evening.
