Ní Ríain and Sisters Win Bronze in Relay at McCullagh International Open Meet

Four Paralympians were in action at the 2025 McCullagh International Open Meet last weekend at the Aurora Sports & Leisure Centre in Bangor. The event, hosted by Swim Ireland in partnership with Swim Ulster is a highlight of the Irish swimming competition calendar.

Róisín Ní Ríain along with her two sisters Sorcha and Meadhbh were part of a Limerick Swim Club relay team that won a national relay bronze in the Women’s 4x  100 Medley Relay. The sibling trio along with Abby Yelverton finished the relay in a time of 4:47.16. In the 200m IM heats Ní Ríain posted a time of 02:32.96 which booked her a place in the B final where she finished 6th overall in a time of 02:31.81. In the 100m breaststroke heat she posted a time of 01:19.61 along with 01:08.55 in the 100m backstroke heat. She also posted 02:32.96 in the 200m IM.

Barry McClements swam the 50m fly heat in 02:09.31 and the 100m backstroke heat in 01:08.04. In his third event, the 100m butterfly heat he finished in 01:04.65.

Dearbhaile Brady competed in two events the 50m freestyle and the 200 IM. In the 50m freestyle heat she finished in 00:36.27, faster than her entry time of 00:36.45. She completed the 200 IM course in 03:27.05, again faster than her entry time of 03:27.83.

Deaten Registe made two b finals over the weekend. He swam his 100m breaststroke heat in 01:08.39 and came third in the final with an improved time of 01:07.79. In the 50m breaststroke he posted a time of 00:31.25 in the heat and again improved his time in the b final finishing in 00:31.03 .

Four performance pathway athletes were also in action over the weekend Luke Brennan, Luke O’Donoghue, Ellie Lynch, and Siomha Brady.
