Cathy Dunne-Fitzpatrick RIP

KATHY
Paralympics Ireland is saddened to learn of the passing of four time Paralympian Cathy Dunne-Fitzpatrick, who represented Ireland across four Paralympic Games, winning two medals at the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games.
Cathy represented Ireland at the 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992 Games, competing in athletics across a range of field events including discus, shot put, javelin and pentathlon. Her greatest Paralympic success came in Seoul in 1988, where she claimed silver in the Women’s Discus Throw 3 and bronze in the Women’s Pentathlon 3.
Cork woman: Just because I have a disability, people think I can't do things
Across more than a decade in Paralympic sport, Cathy was part of a generation of athletes who helped shape Ireland’s Paralympic movement and paved the way for future generations of Irish athletes on the international stage.
Earlier this year, Cathy attended Paralympics Ireland’s UnParalleled: A Celebration of Ireland’s Paralympic Past event, which honoured Irish Paralympians from the early decades of the Games movement.
During the event, she was proudly presented with her official Paralympic number recognising her place in Ireland’s sporting history as Irish Paralympian #37. It was a special opportunity to celebrate Cathy’s achievements and reconnect with athletes whose efforts helped lay the foundations for Paralympic sport in Ireland today.
Everyone at Paralympics Ireland extends our deepest sympathies to Cathy’s family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved her.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
