It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Paralympian, Michael Delaney. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Michael passed in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family and the nurses of St Francis Hospice.
Michael was a wonderfully talented athlete, who represented Ireland in various Paralympic sports such as Athletics, Triathlon and most notably Cycling. It was as a cyclist he performed at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, with David Peelo as the pilot on the tandem. He also represented Ireland at several World Championships in both Athletics and Cycling, picking up two bronze medals at the Para-cycling Pan-American Championships in 2007 and won a bronze medal in the high jump at the 2003 World Athletics Championships.
Paralympics Ireland would like to express our condolences with Michaels family and friends, especially his wife Fionnuala and two children Laoise and Ríona.
