The context of the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games required Paralympics Ireland to take steps to preserve finances to be in a position to support Team Ireland for the 2021 Paralympic Games. However, Paralympics Ireland regret the manner of the termination of the remaining eight months of Denis Toomey’s contract to provide services as Chef de Mission for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Paralympics Ireland recognises Mr. Toomey’s strong performance in his role, long history of advocating for the interests of Paralympic athletes and his commitment to Paralympics sports.
We note that Mr. Toomey continues to serve the Paralympic movement as manager of the Paralympic Cycling team with Cycling Ireland. Paralympics Ireland look forward to working together with Mr. Toomey ensuring the best outcome for Team Ireland in 2021 and beyond.
