Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Connolly RIP

Roberta 'Bobbie' Connolly

It is with great sadness that Paralympics Ireland heard of the passing of Roberta Connolly or ‘Bobbie’ Connolly as she was known by her many friends.

Bobbie had a brilliant sporting career playing Boccia with Team Ireland and representing her country on four separate occasions at the Paralympic Games.

Bobbie made her international debut for Team Ireland at the CP-ISRA World Cup and made an immediate impact winning a silver medal as part of the BC1/2 team.

She made her Paralympic debut  in Sydney and went on to compete at the next three Games including Athens, Beijing and London in 2012. Bobbie was a world class performer and at one stage ranked at number 11 in the World in the BC2 class.

It was not only in the arena of competition that Bobbie made a huge impact as she was also a tireless campaigner for Road safety and was a recipient of the ‘Road Safety Ambassador’ from the Road Safety Authority in 2016.

Bobbie will be sadly missed by all who knew her including everyone from the Boccia Community in Ireland.
