Active Disability Ireland will host their annual conference on Thursday, December 5th in the Radisson Blu, Athlone centred around the theme of Increasing Profile and Visibility.
The conference, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4.15 p.m., will include several sessions, including ‘A Human Perspective’, ‘Disability Sport Profiling’, and ‘An Educational Perspective’.
The event will close with a talk from keynote speaker Nathan Stephens, a three-time Paralympic athlete, who competed in athletics and ice sledge hockey at Torino 2006, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. He was the 2011 World Champion in Men’s Javelin Throw F57, with a world record throw that remained the world record until 2017. Nathan also represented Team Wales at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, competing in Para powerlifting.
Paralympics Ireland Para Network Manager Cliona Horan will be among the speakers during the ‘Disability Sport Profiling’ session alongside representatives from Vision Sports Ireland, the Irish Wheelchair Association and the Special Olympics. She will be presenting a case study on the PTSB NextGen Community Series which saw several events taking place around Ireland in 2024, inviting people with disabilities to learn more about Para sport and what opportunities are in their local community.
