Paralympics Ireland would like to send our condolences to the people of Japan following the sudden and shocking death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Mr. Abe was instrumental in Japan hosting the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and was a key figure in ensuring that the Games were able to go ahead through his leadership at the beginning of the pandemic.
Violence, in all forms, is unacceptable and to lose such an important figure in such a horrific manner is truly shocking. We join the voices that have paid tribute to Mr. Abe and condemn the cowardly and violent act that led to his death.
All of us in the Paralympic movement wish to share our solidarity with Mr. Abe’s family, Japanese Ambassador to Ireland, Ambassador Kitano and the Japanese people at this time.
