Irish Para-athlete Lana Sutton delivered a sensational performance at this year’s Loughborough International Athletics (LIA) meet, clinching victory in the Women’s 100m Para event and affirming her status as one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging talents in track and field.
Competing at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium, Sutton powered to a dominant finish in a competitive field, showcasing exceptional speed and composure in what has become a standout early-season performance. Sutton’s victory was particularly significant as she crossed the line ahead of Sophie Hahn, a former European, World, and Paralympic Champion, who finished second in 12.97. Great Britain’s Maddie Down completed the podium in third, also clocking a personal best of 13.10. Her win marks an important milestone in her athletic development and positions her strongly ahead of the summer’s international meets.
Fellow Aspire Programme athlete Brandon Ballard also produced an excellent performance finishing 2nd in the 1500m in 4.01.
Now in its 67th year, the Loughborough International is a hallmark event in the UK athletics calendar, serving as the traditional opener to the outdoor season. The LIA event was once again a family-friendly celebration of athletics, with thousands of spectators enjoying both elite competition and interactive activities such as long jump, shot put challenges, and reaction tests. The meet also serves as a valuable platform for Para-athletes like Sutton and Ballard to showcase their talent in an inclusive and high-performance environment.
