Job Description
Finance and Governance Officer
This is a fractional Finance and Governance role designed to strengthen the finance and governance capability of Paralympics Ireland. It is a key role in supporting management and the board. It is expected to require a variable commitment of approximately 2–3 days per week, depending on workload and calender timetables.
Reporting To
Chief Executive Officer, Paralympics Ireland
Key Responsibilities
Finance
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements.
- Cash flow reporting and management.
- Review and oversight of monthly reconciliations and internal financial controls.
- Project manage year end audit with external auditors
- Supervision of one accounting staff member.
- Approval of bank payments in accordance with finance and procurement policies.
- Acting as an authorised bank signatory in line with finance policy.
- Preparation of the annual budget and ongoing forecast updates.
- Oversight of all grant applications and related follow-up reporting.
- Membership of the Finance & Audit Committee.
- Participation in specific finance-related projects as required.
Governance
- Membership of the Governance & Risk Committee.
- Ensuring compliance with the Sport Ireland Governance & Charities Governance Codes.
- Supporting management and committees in maintaining the Risk Register and ensuring policies are reviewed and kept up to date.
- Statutory filings with the Companies Registration Office, Charities Regulator and fulfilling the role of Company Secretary of Paralympics Ireland.
- Supporting the preparation of Board papers in conjunction with the President.
- Contributing to governance-related projects as required.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engagement with key internal and external stakeholders as required, including Board, Committee Members, National Governing Bodies, Sport Ireland, auditors, suppliers, and other partners.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of the sports and charity sectors.
- High level of accounting expertise with strong analytical capabilities.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Previous experience in a senior finance and/or governance role, with a preference for candidates seeking a part-time or fractional position.
- Well-developed IT skills, including advanced Excel.
- Experience with Sage Line 50 desirable but not essential.
- Experience in corporate governance, with familiarity with Sports and Charities Governance Codes, is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- Qualified Accountant.
- Minimum of three years’ relevant professional experience.
