It is with great sadness that Paralympics Ireland have learned of the passing of two time Paralympian John McGuinness.
John represented Ireland at the Paralympic Games in both Seoul and Barcelona. He was the winner of three Paralympic medals, all coming in Seoul but from two sports as he claimed a silver medal in the 1500m and bronze in the 5000m cross country in Athletics. He then followed this up by joining his teammates on the 7-a-side men’s CP Football team who won the bronze medal in that event.
John was immensely proud of his Paralympic achievements and was seen happily displaying his medals as Team Ireland competed at the Paralympic Games in Paris only one year ago.
John passed away peacefully in the care of Peamount Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his father John and his partner Madeline, brothers David, Paul and Barry, aunty Ann and his relatives and friends. He will also be missed by the family of Irish Paralympic sport, his team mates from Seoul and Barcelona and all that were lucky enough to know him.
