Paralympics Ireland Present Team Ireland Paris 2024

Team Ireland were assembled for the first time at the R.D.S in Dublin for the official presentation of the 35 strong team that will represent Ireland at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Chef de Mission, Neasa Russell, introduced the team and the cast of support staff that will travel to Paris ahead of the Paralympic Games.

Each athlete was called up in turn to the acclaim of the attendance of over 300 people at the iconic Concert Hall at the R.D.S. To make the event even more special each athlete was received onto the stage by members of the team that represented Ireland at the 1984 Paralympic Games, Joe Geraghty and Pat Kelly.

The Irish Para athletes haven’t performed in front of a full house since Rio 2016 and this event provided an opportunity for the athletes to receive the cheers and congratulations that have been sadly absent for 8 years.

Vice President of Paralympics Ireland, Lisa Clancy, welcomed the athletes and recalled her experiences of being one of the few supporters in attendance at the pandemic affected Tokyo Games. Stephen McNamara, CEO of Paralympics Ireland also spoke about the importance of creating a supportive culture amongst the athletes in the village as he outlined three principles for a successful team: Be Sound, Mind Yourself and Use Your Cop On!

The third speaker of the day was Minister Anne Rabbitte who congratulated the assembled team on their selection and wished them the very best of luck as they depart for the Paris Games.

The athletes will now depart for their respective training camps before assembling in the Athlete’s Village ahead of the Opening Ceremony on August 28th at the Place de la Concorde.
